Village Church Nursery School

The Village Nursery School, a non-profit organization, licensed by the State of California, is sponsored by the Village Church Community Presbyterian for the purpose of providing a half day nursery program for the children, ages 2 - 5, of the surrounding communities.

Philosophy

Believing that a child's early formative years are important to his later life, The Village Nursery School seeks to provide a high quality program in a warm Christian atmosphere with sufficient professional staff.

The Village Nursery School has been accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. Here are some examples of the criteria for High Quality Early Childhood Programs that the Academy looks for:

  • frequent, positive, warm interactions among adults and children
  • planned learning activities appropriate to children's age and development, such as block building, painting, reading stories, dress-up, and active outdoor play
  • specially trained teachers
  • enough adults to respond to individual children
  • many varied age-appropriate materials
  • a healthy and safe environment for children
  • nutritious snacks
  • regular communication with parents who are welcome visitors at all times
  • effective administration
  • ongoing, systematic evaluation

The above list was compiled by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. We are very proud that we have created an environment that lives up to these high standards.

Goals

For the child

  • To provide a setting where children can be together to develop wholesome social relationships.
  • To provide a variety of experiences which are developmentally appropriate for each child.
  • To provide a continuing experience of Christian love, ideals, and concepts.

For the parents:

  • To provide the opportunity to meet with other parents and the staff who share a common concern for young children.
  • To provide resources that promote the understanding of the developing child.
  • To provide professional care for the child while a parent may pursue work or other interests.

Staff

The staff are experienced individuals who have been schooled in the needs of the young child. Continued education through workshops, classes and in-service training keeps them aware of new developments in early childhood education. Each teacher has special strengths and interests to contribute as we work with your child.

Parents

You are partners in this first school experience. You will meet others who share similar hopes for their children. Expand your friendships and your activities through the school. Your child as well as yourself will be enriched. Special activities are planned throughout the year for mothers and fathers as well as the whole family.

Schedule

The traditional school year is observed starting one week after Labor Day and closing in mid-June. Summer school is usually offered for the month of July.

Morning classes begin at 8:30 and end at 11:30. Afternoon classes begin at 12:00 and end at 3:00. Extended days are available until 2:00 everyday for the morning classes. Extended day for afternoon classes starts at 9:30 everyday.

Your child will be placed in a class with children with whom he might attend kindergarten. December 2nd is the age cut-off date.

Tuition

Since the school is a non-profit organization the fees and tuition collected are reinvested in the school.
