The Director of Music

It is with both pleasure and humility that this report is submitted. The music/drama program continues to thrive. We are at the highest participation level in the history of the church with growth still evident. In 2007, over 12,000 “Participation Units” were reported—nearly doubling 2006 figures. Artistically, we are reaching toward excellence with obvious success. Spiritually, we are committed to enhancing worship, enriching our participants, and engaging our community and constituents.

SANCTUARY CHOIR: The SC continues to sing in every morning worship service year-round. They present at least two major works annually to a growing audience. The VILLAGE WOMEN’S CHORUS concert in May, an “extra,” was highly successful and enthusiastically received.

CHILDRENS’ CHOIRS: Katy Lundeen’s work with these four choirs is of the highest quality. They performed regularly in the worship services, gave concerts at the Soup Kitchen, participated in festivals in Los Angeles and San Diego, and presented two musicals in May. The second annual (August) CHILDREN’S MUSIC AND DRAMA CAMP had an attendance of 95 kids and over 50 adults. They performed two more musicals to a full and animated house. The camp was partially supported by a generous grant from the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.

DRAMA MINISTRIES: Margie Wood continues to have good success in the growing drama program. Drama high points were productions of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, and THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. The annual DESSERT NIGHT was a hit! All of these played to full houses and involved many individuals, both on and off stage.

VILLAGE RINGERS: Marianne Schwartz directs this group of 16 dedicated ringers. They participated regularly in the services, and hosted a major regional bell choir workshop.

WORSHIP ENHANCEMENT: Pat Dickinson and her volunteers provided beautiful decorations to enhance worship in both facilities and have carefully planned for the construction “interim.”
